In September 2016, my life changed drastically when I fell and broke my shoulder. It was a painful, long process to get mobility back in my right arm. My OT suggested that I start to swim in the spring of 2017, that’s when I joined JAC. Swimming helped with the mobility of my shoulder, but I lacked strength in my arm.
For the next 2 years I continued to swim and walk the track. Last Christmas my daughter offered to get me a gift certificate with a JAC personal trainer. I wasn’t sure what I was in for, but I knew I had to do something. My body felt like it was falling apart which affected my mobility, strength, and balance. Even though I’m a senior, I wasn’t ready to say I can’t do that anymore.
After a couple of meetings with Steve, I knew this is just what I needed to make a commitment to a healthier lifestyle. Steve and I set goals together and he encouraged me to do the Team Training classes even though the classes weren’t something I saw myself being able to do.
Now, I meet with Steve once a week which keeps me motivated to continue coming to the gym, he is always positive about my progress. Working with Steve has helped build my confidence and to take risks, I have taken 10lbs off and though I don’t focus on the weight am happy that I feel so much healthier. We continue to work on strength building so I can go about doing daily activities without fear of falling. My energy level, strength and confidence have increased since I have been active at the gym. I have also been attending the Team Training classes weekly now!
